Steam Frame unboxing and setup videos leak, providing closer look at VR headset and extras

A collection of videos demonstrating the unboxing and setup process for the Steam Frame VR headset from Valve has appeared on the internet. User HardwareSteam shared footage sourced from a recent Arm Steam Client update. Although Valve removed the content, the leak has already spread.

What the videos show

The unboxing video indicates that the Steam Frame includes a magnetic eye relief spacer, a USB-C cable, a wireless adapter, and controllers. The magnetic spacer is designed to make wearing the headset more accommodating for users with spectacles, offering better comfort and image focus.

A separate leaked video covers the Ergonomic Accessories Kit. This package includes Velcro handstraps for the controllers to improve grip security and reduce hand stress. It also features a top headstrap to improve weight distribution and stability, which should help make prolonged play sessions more comfortable with the 440g assembly.

For users with smaller noses, there is an 'extended light blocker' featuring longer flaps to seal the gap between the Steam Frame and the nose, helping to combat light bleed. It is unclear whether this accessory package ships with all headsets, and there is no sign of the previously rumoured Steam Frame Enthusiast Kit.

Finally, it seems that you'll be able to sign into your Steam Frame via your smartphone by scanning a QR code on the inside of the system. Just don't forget to have the same account signed in on your PC of choice, if you plan to use the headset in unison with a Steam Machine or another rig.

What remains unknown

We are still no closer to knowing when Valve will launch the Steam Frame, nor how much it will cost. However, this leak, combined with recent developer comments, makes it seem likely that the headset isn't too far away.

The leaked Valve video also notes that the Steam Frame will ship in an energy saving state by default, requiring charge from an external source for initial power on. Considering no one wants to have their unboxing spoiled by a flat battery, this is an entirely sensible measure. All the same, I do wonder how many folks will miss this step and mistakenly think there's something amiss with the system.
