UGREEN LinkStation Pro eGPU Dock Packs Thunderbolt 5 and 850W Power
UGREEN has upgraded its external graphics enclosure lineup with the LinkStation Pro. Moving away from the USB4 interface of the previous LinkStation, this new dock adopts Thunderbolt 5, offering significantly faster connectivity, enhanced power delivery, and expanded system scalability.
Bandwidth and Performance Gains
The headline feature of the LinkStation Pro is the leap to Thunderbolt 5. By replacing the 40Gbps USB4 connection with 80Gbps of bi-directional bandwidth, the dock can provide up to 64Gbps of dedicated PCIe 4.0 x4 data throughput directly to the installed graphics card. This expanded pipeline is designed to reduce performance bottlenecks when paired with Thunderbolt 5 host systems.
For users prioritizing native, low-latency hardware links, the dock retains a dedicated OCuLink port capable of up to 64Gbps. Manufacturer benchmarks suggest that the Thunderbolt 5 implementation delivers noticeable performance improvements in synthetic benchmarks like Time Spy Extreme, whereas OCuLink maintains a competitive edge in raw ray-tracing workloads, such as 3DMark Port Royal.
Chassis and Power Delivery
The enclosure features a semi-open, all-aluminum chassis designed to maximize airflow. The LinkStation Pro supports full-sized desktop graphics cards up to 370mm in length, and a revised PCIe bracket area ensures compatibility with wide dual- and triple-slot flagship cards.
Power is supplied by an integrated "850W" Gold-rated ATX 3.1 PSU. It includes a native 12V-2x6 connector to accommodate power-hungry modern GPUs, including NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 and RTX 50 series, alongside two PCIe 6+2-pin cables providing a total of four 8-pin connectors for multi-cable configurations.
Desktop Hub Capabilities and Pricing
Beyond its primary function as a GPU dock, the LinkStation Pro acts as a versatile desktop hub. It increases laptop charging capabilities via USB PD 3.1 from 100W to 140W. The device also features three Thunderbolt 5 ports with daisy-chaining support, a USB-A 3.2 10Gbps port for peripherals, and supports triple-display output at 8K resolution. The dock is compatible with Windows, Linux, and macOS on Intel platforms.
The CM990 model is priced at 3,000 yuan (approximately $447 USD). Global availability and specific release dates for other regions have not yet been announced.
