The Sinking City 2 Release Date Confirmed for August 18
Frogwares has officially announced the release date for The Sinking City 2. The survival horror game is scheduled to launch simultaneously on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox on August 18, 2026.
A Shift in Gameplay Focus
Unlike the first installment, which focused heavily on detective work, the sequel pivots toward classic survival horror mechanics. The story is set in the flooded city of Acanth after evacuation. Players will take on the role of occult adventurer Calvin Lafferty, weighing the life of a single person against the fate of the entire city.
Instead of linear investigation, the game emphasizes resource management, inventory constraints, and exploration. The setting features an abandoned market with rusted ships and empty shops, where players must solve puzzles, find safe routes, and decipher forbidden records.
Development Context and Technical Updates
The development team of over 90 people, based primarily in Ukraine, faced significant challenges due to the ongoing war. The original plan for a late 2025 to early 2026 release was pushed back following an announcement at the Future Games Show in June, where the studio showcased a one-hour demo.
Following a split with their previous publisher, Frogwares will now self-publish the title. Additionally, HDR support is planned to be added via a free update shortly after launch.
