Sucker Punch reportedly lays off 24 staff after Ghost of Yōtei
Sucker Punch Productions, the developer behind Ghost of Yōtei, has reportedly undergone layoffs affecting 24 employees. An internal email obtained by Aftermath suggests the studio decided to make staffing reductions after observing market challenges and reviewing the requirements for its next project.
A former employee claims that 24 people were let go. In the internal communication, the company stated that the decision was not made lightly and emphasized their commitment to supporting affected colleagues during the transition. Further details regarding the studio's future are expected to be shared next week.
The layoffs follow the successful launch of Ghost of Yōtei, the sequel to 2020's Ghost of Tsushima. Released last October, the title sold 3.3 million copies in its first month, outperforming the original game's sales in the same timeframe. According to GSD data, the game was Sony Interactive Entertainment's largest first-party PlayStation launch in Europe, significantly boosting Sony's Q3 revenue.
While Sucker Punch has continued to support the title with a multiplayer mode in March and a Complete Edition featuring a single-player expansion earlier this month, the studio is now shifting its focus toward upcoming development needs.
