Roblox restricts reward-driven media feeds in Kids and Select; 1047 Games ends live service shooters
Roblox Corporation has introduced a new policy restricting games within its Roblox Kids and Select categories that feature "reward-driven media feeds." The update targets specific mechanics designed to keep children engaged with continuous content streams in exchange for virtual rewards.
The platform clarified that the new restrictions apply to games combining media feeds—such as short-form videos, image galleries, or social stories—with autoplay, infinite scroll, or autoscroll features. Crucially, a game only falls under this policy if it includes reward mechanics that require or imply an ongoing consumption of that content to receive the benefit.
This announcement follows reports that the popular pet-collecting simulator Steal an Egg was taken offline for including a mechanic encouraging users to run on a virtual treadmill while watching endless content to earn rewards. Roblox stated it is actively reviewing games for compliance and will remove non-compliant titles from Kids and Select unless the game mechanics are redesigned.
Roblox emphasized that this policy does not affect standard Rewarded Video Ads, noting that users must actively initiate these ads and that rate limits apply to how many a user can watch. Games adjusted to meet the new policy will be re-reviewed, ensuring all other qualifications for inclusion remain intact without resetting Engaged Player criteria.
The move comes amid heightened scrutiny of the platform's safety practices. Last week, the US Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Counterterrorism announced an investigation into Roblox, claiming the platform appears to prioritize revenue and engagement metrics over child safety. In response to such concerns, Roblox has also open-sourced three of its AI safety models via the Robust Open Online Safety Tools Model Community (ROOST).
