Paramount Games Studio and WB Games merge under Skydance
Following the completion of Paramount's $111 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD), the video game divisions of both companies are merging. According to a memo obtained by Variety, Paramount Games Studio and WB Games will form a single unit under the new Skydance umbrella.
The combined Games and Experiences division will be led by Tony Driscoll, the current president of Paramount Games Studio. In his new expanded role, Driscoll will also oversee corporate strategy and development for Skydance. The merger aims to unify the management of projects based on IP from both companies, with specific mention of leveraging DC Comics storytelling and expanding e-commerce and digital engagement.
The strategic shift marks a significant change in how these assets operate. Dan Prigg, head of games at Paramount, told GamesIndustry.biz that prior to the merger, Paramount focused primarily on licensing rather than internal development or publishing. By merging with Skydance's existing studio ecosystem, the new division intends to better control its release slate and build stronger community engagement.
Key leadership appointments within the new structure include Josh Silverman as president of global products and publishing, Jim Sterner as chief people officer, and Jose Turkienicz as president of global operations.
However, the transition may not be without friction. Skydance CEO David Ellison acknowledged that integrating two companies of this scale and complexity will require "difficult decisions," noting that the process will inevitably involve organizational changes and impacts.
