No Man's Sky is coming to mobile, thanks to Light No Fire
No Man's Sky, the universe-sized space sim from Hello Games, is officially coming to mobile devices. The iOS release is set for October 28, with developers noting that technical breakthroughs from their upcoming project played a key role in making the port a reality.
The mobile version will include all of the game's numerous updates. Hello Games has confirmed support for devices as old as the iPhone 11. Players will have multiple control options, including touch, controllers, and even mouse and keyboard. Pre-orders for the game are opening today.
Co-founder Sean Murray revealed that the mobile version has been a "side project" for nearly three years. He emphasized the goal of delivering console-quality visuals and gameplay that can be enjoyed anywhere. Additionally, the optimizations made for the port are expected to benefit players on all other platforms, including PC, PlayStation, Switch, and Xbox.
A major factor in this achievement is the development of Light No Fire, the studio's upcoming co-op adventure set on a procedurally generated fantasy planet. Murray explained to Polygon that the team had to find new ways to improve performance and memory profiling. Since the studio uses a shared engine, these advancements were successfully carried over to No Man's Sky.
While Light No Fire has been under development since its 2023 reveal, an official release date has not yet been announced, despite recent indications from Murray that the project is progressing well.
