Nintendo Switch 2 surpasses 26 million units sold
Nintendo has released updated sales data as part of its latest fiscal earnings report. The Nintendo Switch 2 has officially crossed a major milestone, reaching 26.35 million units sold.
As of September 30, the console has reached 26.35 million units, marking an increase of 2.67 million compared to the previous quarter. This achievement means the Switch 2 has not only surpassed the 25 million mark but has also officially overtaken the lifetime sales of Microsoft's original Xbox, which ended its run at 24 million units.
Software performance and market context
The report also highlighted significant software milestones. Donkey Kong Bananza has sold 5.05 million copies, while Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is nearing the 9 million mark at 8.83 million. Additionally, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe—which recently received a Switch 2 update—has reached 80.46 million copies when including its previous sales on the Wii U.
Currently, the console averages just under three games per system. While this is significantly lower than the original Nintendo Switch, which saw a ratio of approximately 10 games per console, the current figure reflects the platform's relatively early stage in its lifecycle.
