MSI has officially confirmed the indefinite postponement of the MSI MPG 271KRAW18 monitor. The device, which was showcased at Computex 2026 as a flagship product featuring 5K resolution (5120×2880 pixels) and an 180Hz refresh rate, is now on hold until further notice.
Technical Specifications of the Delayed Project
At Computex 2026, MSI unveiled the concept for the MSI MPG 271KRAW18. Key specifications included:
- Panel: 27-inch Rapid IPS with a resolution of 5120×2880 pixels (approx. 218 PPI).
- Refresh Rate: 180Hz in native 5K resolution.
- Dual-Mode: up to 330Hz at 2560×1440 (1440p).
- Backlighting: Mini LED with 2,304 local dimming zones.
- HDR: VESA DisplayHDR 1400 support.
- Interfaces: DisplayPort 2.1 UHBR20, USB-C with DP Alt Mode and up to 98W charging.
The monitor was also planned to feature a Quantum Dot layer, a glossy surface, and a peak brightness exceeding 1,400 nits. The combination of high pixel density, refresh rate, and Mini LED backlighting was intended to position the device as an alternative to OLED monitors for tasks where high image detail is prioritized over maximum frame rates.
Reasons for Project Suspension
On August 7, 2026, MSI confirmed the project's postponement via TFTCentral. The manufacturer cited two primary reasons:
- Technical feasibility: challenges in ensuring stable operation of all system components simultaneously.
- Changed priorities: the need to reallocate resources to other monitor projects.
The company has not specified whether the issue relates to a specific panel type, controller, or Mini LED backlighting management system. Experts note that achieving such specifications requires high-speed operation of the entire video pipeline, including signal processing and data compression.
Comparison with Other MSI Models
It is worth noting that MSI does not abandon the production of 5K monitors. At the same exhibition, the MAG 271KPD7 was presented, which also uses a 5120×2880 pixel matrix but operates natively at only 75Hz and reaches 300Hz in 1440p mode. Differences from the delayed model include:
- Absence of Mini LED technology (standard backlighting).
- Absence of Quantum Dots.
The MAG 271KPD7 is expected to be available for purchase in September 2026 at a price of approximately $799 USD. The suspension of the MSI MPG 271KRAW18 project, conversely, points to difficulties specifically with implementing the complex High-End concept.
