GPD has officially announced the GPD WIN Max 3, a handheld device powered by AMD Ryzen AI Max+ (Strix Halo) processors and Radeon 8060S graphics. The manufacturer's website already lists technical specifications: a 9.06-inch AMOLED display with a 165 Hz refresh rate, up to 128 GB of LPDDR5X-8000 RAM, and support for two SSDs.
However, the specific price has not yet been confirmed by GPD itself. Notebookcheck cites data from PureDIY, suggesting that a base version with Ryzen AI Max+ 388, 32 GB of RAM, and likely a 512 GB SSD could start at $1699. The source notes that this is merely a rumor, not an official announcement.
Strix Halo platform and memory features
The device is built around the AMD Ryzen AI Max+ (Strix Halo) family of chips, which combines Zen 5 cores with a large integrated RDNA 3.5 graphics unit. In configurations with the Ryzen AI Max+ 395, the GPU is the Radeon 8060S with 40 compute units (2560 shader cores).
Special attention should be paid to memory. GPD offers versions with 32, 64, and 128 GB of LPDDR5X-8000 RAM. Since the CPU and GPU share a single pool of memory, the 128 GB version theoretically provides up to 96 GB of video memory. It is important to note that this is not dedicated VRAM but part of the Unified Memory.
Power and cooling
For a device of this size, the declared maximum platform power consumption is up to 110 W when using additional cooling. Inside the GPD chassis, two fans are installed, and an additional detachable module with two more fans is provided.
The 97 Wh battery is not built into the chassis but is attached magnetically as a separate block weighing 405 g. Without the battery, the device weighs 815 g, while the full kit weighs about 1.22 kg.
Rumor on price and confirmation status
The price of $1699 is mentioned in the context of a base configuration (Ryzen AI Max+ 388, 32 GB RAM). However, GPD has not officially confirmed this figure yet. The Notebookcheck website points out that a full price list is missing and information about order launches at the end of August is also based on rumors.
