KBDØ Unveils Curve0 v2 Mechanical Keyboard with Stainless Steel Case

The Curve0 v2 represents a redesign of the original 75% layout, focusing on improving the ergonomics and industrial aesthetic established by KBDØ since 2024. While previous mechanical keyboards often relied on extreme ergonomic shapes like the MoErgo Glove80 or Bastard Keyboards Charybdis, KBDØ introduced its unique Curve0 design to a 60% layout in 2024. The new v2 iteration refines this approach with a redesigned bottom row and a stainless steel case that serves as both a structural reinforcement and a flex-cut PCB mount.

KBDØ addresses the fundamental issue of flat keycaps on curved profiles, noting that a flat striking surface is not inherently comfortable for users accustomed to curved layouts. Traditional solutions involve using curved keycaps, but this introduces several mechanical compromises: the direction the finger pushes does not perfectly align with the key's movement path, requiring more force to actuate; friction increases due to misalignment, leading to more switch chatter; and the angled keycaps necessitate a taller profile, increasing horizontal lever travel and amplifying these issues. The Curve0 v2 solves this by angling the switches themselves to match the natural direction of finger movement, eliminating the need for compromised keycap angles.

Connectivity and software support are standard for enthusiasts. The device uses a wired USB connection and runs open-source QMK firmware via VIA or Vial configuration tools, allowing for extensive layout customization. It is compatible with standard MX-style mechanical switches and is available in two configurations: a hot-swap version priced at $95 (approximately 130,000 KRW) and a soldering kit version for $90 (approximately 120,000 KRW). As a barebone keyboard, neither version includes switches or keycaps in the box.

The stainless steel chassis is not merely an aesthetic choice but a functional component that reinforces the switch plate. The internal PCB utilizes flex-cut technology to accommodate the unique geometry of the layout. This combination of materials and design aims to provide a refined industrial look while maintaining the ergonomic benefits of the curved profile without the mechanical drawbacks associated with flat keycaps on angled layouts.
