Intel Nova Lake platform passes USB and PCIe compliance tests
The appearance of new device IDs in standards organization databases suggests that the Intel Nova Lake platform is nearing its launch. According to entries in the USB-IF and PCI-SIG lists, components for future CPUs and 900-series chipsets have passed compliance testing for USB and PCIe standards.
Interface and Controller Certifications
As reported by Tom’s Hardware, the Nova Lake architecture is set to bring significant interface bandwidth improvements. Specifically, the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) has listed a Thunderbolt 5 controller for mobile systems (Nova Lake-H). This controller is certified to meet the USB4 80Gbps specification.
For desktop systems utilizing 900-series chipsets, a USB 3.2 Gen2x2 controller with 20Gbps throughput has been identified. Regarding PCIe support, the PCI-SIG integrators list already includes device IDs for root ports of the upcoming chipsets. Additionally, an unnamed CPU has appeared in the list with IDs corresponding to a PCIe 5.0 x16 root complex, which is highly likely to be part of the Nova Lake lineup.
Release Outlook and Positioning
While exact release dates remain unconfirmed, the platform's preparation appears to be well underway. Shipping records have already revealed Z990 motherboards, and Intel has previously stated that the platform will launch for desktops before server applications.
