Samsung Galaxy SmartTag3: iPhone Support and Up to 790 Days of Battery
Samsung has unveiled its next-generation tracking device, the Galaxy SmartTag3. The new tracker features a smaller form factor, extended battery life, and enhanced tracking range, while finally opening its ecosystem to iPhone users.
Cross-Platform Integration and Connectivity
The most significant update for the SmartTag3 is native iOS integration via the SmartThings app. iPhone owners can now view a tag’s location, share access with family members, and use the Search Nearby feature. While advanced features like UWB Compass View, remote phone ringing, and Left Behind alerts remain exclusive to Galaxy smartphones, this update allows mixed-device households to manage shared items like keys or luggage more easily.
On the connectivity front, the tracker utilizes Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding, providing directional guidance up to 60 meters—roughly triple the range of the SmartTag2. For precision positioning at close range, UWB technology takes over. For items out of wireless range, the device relies on the Galaxy Find Network, which leverages over 900 million active nodes to provide continuous location telemetry.
Design and Battery Life
The redesigned SmartTag3 is 35% smaller in volume and 33% lighter than its predecessor. It features a rounded casing with an aluminum button and an IP67 dust and water resistance rating. Power efficiency has seen a major boost: the battery lasts up to 550 days under standard usage and up to 790 days when configured in Power Saving mode.
Samsung has also expanded the device's utility to include pet monitoring. When attached to a pet's collar, sensors can track movement metrics, playtime, and sleep duration. Additionally, a geofencing tool called Place Notification allows users to set custom boundaries and receive alerts if a pet or item crosses them. Security features include Location History (storing movement logs for seven days) and Movement Detection Alert, which triggers if a disconnected tag senses unexpected motion. Other existing features like NFC Lost Mode and customizable SmartThings automation via the physical button are also retained.
Availability
The Galaxy SmartTag3 will be available in Black and White. It is scheduled to launch in South Korea on October 7, with a US release expected in early November.
