Acer Project DualPlay Mini: 8-inch handheld with flip keyboard

The design is reminiscent of old flip-phones, such as the Nokia E90. In handheld mode, the device includes standard gaming controls like analogue sticks, a D-pad, and triggers, similar to modern devices like the MSI Claw 8 AI. To switch to laptop mode, users open the handheld like a flip-phone to expose the keyboard and then swivel the display to face the correct direction. The keyboard is in a 60% format with essential keys, but it lacks a built-in trackpad. While joysticks can be used for pointing, a traditional pointing stick might have been a more ergonomic addition. Since the product is still in development, the design may change.

Acer has not shared specific specifications or performance targets for the Project DualPlay Mini. However, the company indicated that the machine is powered by an Intel chip, possibly the new Panther Lake-based Arc G3. The split design reduces the space available for hardware, cooling, and battery, which may lead to compromises. The prototype already houses two fans, one of which uses metal blades to improve airflow. Based on shared renders, the device features two USB-C ports, one of which supports Thunderbolt, plus a 3.5mm audio jack on the top edge between the fan exhaust grills.

Acer has stressed that the Project DualPlay Mini is a concept device, stating that there are no concrete plans for a market launch. Consequently, there are no release date or price targets for it. The device remains a prototype, and its final form and availability are uncertain.
