Worlds 2026 Kickoff: Play-In in LA and Four LCK Contenders
The League of Legends World Championship 2026 is set to begin on October 16. The tournament kicks off with the Play-In stage at the Riot Games Arena in Los Angeles, where four teams will battle for a single spot in the Swiss Stage.
The Play-In stage will feature Cloud9 (LCS), Karmine Corp (LEC), MVK eSports (LCP), and FURIA (CBLOL). The stage follows a double-elimination format in Bo3 series, with only one team advancing to the Swiss Stage.

The opening matches on October 16 will see Cloud9 face Karmine Corp, followed by FURIA vs. MVK eSports. The matchup between Cloud9 and Karmine Corp is particularly notable due to their Korean talent in key roles: Karmine Corp features top-laner Kanna (Kim Chang-dong) and mid-laner Yehu (Kang Ye-hu), while Cloud9's roster includes Thanatos (Park Seung-gyu) and Loki (Lee Sang-min).

The LCK representatives—Gen.G, Hanwha Life Esports, T1, and Dplus KIA—will enter the competition later, starting with the Swiss Stage on October 24 in Allen, Texas. A victory this year would allow the LCK to secure a historic run of five consecutive world titles since 2022.

The Swiss Stage will consist of 16 teams competing in Bo1 matches, with Bo3 series for decisive elimination or advancement games. The tournament will culminate in the Knockout Stage, with the Grand Final scheduled for November 15 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
