Professor Layton and the Curious Village Remake announced for PS5, Switch 2, Switch, and PC
LEVEL-5 has announced a remake of the first Professor Layton game, launching in 2027 for PS5, Switch 2, Switch, and PC.
LEVEL-5 has officially announced Professor Layton and the Curious Village Remake, a modernized version of the first entry in the Professor Layton series. The title is scheduled to launch in 2027 for PS5, Switch 2, Switch, and PC via Steam.
The original Professor Layton and the Curious Village debuted on the Nintendo DS in February 2007. In this remake, Professor Layton and his apprentice Luke travel to the remote settlement of St. Mystere to investigate a mysterious will. The baron’s estate, the Reinhold Estate, is set to be inherited by whoever finds the hidden Golden Apple, prompting the duo to search the town for clues.
The development team has focused on enhancing the visual presentation and immersion. Key upgrades include characters reimagined in 3D, which allows for more detailed exploration of the village, and high-resolution widescreen animations that revisit memorable scenes with greater clarity.
Puzzle supervision for the project is handled by Akira Tago, a Professor Emeritus at Chiba University and the author of the Japanese puzzle book series Atama no Taisou. Tago’s background in psychology and his extensive work in early childhood education and adult cognitive development inform the design of the game’s challenges.
LEVEL-5 described the project as a chance for longtime fans to revisit a familiar town and for newcomers to discover the puzzles that started the series. The announcement was made during the LEVEL-5 Vision 2026 II Dream event, where the studio shared a trailer showcasing the new visual style and gameplay elements.
