Monster GPU: Four Radeon RX 470s Combined on a Single PCB

A massive, custom-built graphics card has surfaced in recent photos, featuring an unusually wide PCB that integrates four Radeon RX 470 GPUs into a single unit. While the sheer scale of the hardware has sparked questions about whether it could be the largest PCIe graphics card in existence, the configuration suggests a highly specialized purpose rather than consumer gaming.

The hardware was showcased by X user _@GOKForFree_, who previously shared images of a suspected Asus Mars III prototype featuring dual Nvidia GPUs. This new discovery, however, is quite different in scale. Despite the presence of the AMD logo, this is not an official AMD product. According to information shared by the user in an exchange with VideoCardz, the PCB—identified by the label "DYII-XQ570 V1.0"—does not actually house four RX 570 units as the name might suggest. Instead, a sticker on the board confirms it contains four Radeon RX 470 (Test) GPUs.

These GPUs are based on the Polaris 10 architecture, manufactured by Globalfoundries using a 14 nm process. Given that the Radeon RX 470 is a technology from approximately eight years ago, this setup represents a massive consolidation of older hardware. Each individual GPU is equipped with 8 GB of GDDR5 memory, bringing the total video memory of the entire board to 32 GB.

Power Delivery and Interface Limitations

The power requirements for such a configuration are significant. While a standard Radeon RX 470 typically requires a single 6-pin or 8-pin connector, this custom board features four 8-pin power sockets. This setup allows for a theoretical power delivery of up to 600 W. However, the interface limitations are notable: the PCIe connector provides only 8 lanes (x8) instead of the full 16 lanes (x16). Furthermore, the integrated PCIe switch is reported to operate only at PCIe 2.0 speeds. For the likely intended application, these bandwidth constraints may not be a significant bottleneck.

A Specialized Solution for Mining

The design of this hardware strongly suggests it was manufactured in China specifically for use in large-scale mining rigs. This follows a pattern of specialized hardware seen in the past, such as the dual-GPU Radeon RX 570 models previously identified as being purpose-built for Ethereum mining.
