CaTHaRSiS: The last of atelier to launch on PC this December
The immersive art adventure CaTHaRSiS: The last of atelier is set to arrive on PC via Steam on December 1. Announced by publisher Kodansha and developer Mana, the title promises a journey through the worlds of iconic masterpieces, allowing players to step directly into the canvases of history's greatest painters.
In a move driven by community feedback, the developers have confirmed that the game will feature a dedicated Photo Mode. This addition comes after players who tested the demo expressed a strong desire to capture the game's highly detailed environments from various angles and attempt to recreate the compositions of famous paintings. When activated, the Photo Mode will pause the gameplay, granting players full control over the camera, angle, and brightness, as well as the ability to hide characters to capture the perfect shot.
A Journey Through Masterpieces
CaTHaRSiS: The last of atelier positions itself as a quiet, moving experience where players take on the role of an 'empty vessel'—a character without memory or a sense of self. Guided by two companions, a wolf and an owl, you will wander through ten distinct worlds inspired by legendary artists, attempting to reclaim what was lost along the way.
Artistic Worlds and Inspired Landscapes
The game's journey is structured around the visual language of renowned masters. Players will navigate through the deep blues and shimmering stars of Vincent van Gogh's works, such as The Starry Night and Sunflowers, eventually finding a quiet cafe terrace at night. The experience continues through the sunlit, breezy meadows of Claude Monet's Woman with a Parasol, and into the dazzling, geometric gold of Gustav Klimt's The Kiss.
Designed for those seeking a contemplative pace, the game features no game overs or time limits. The total playtime is estimated to be roughly the length of a feature film, allowing players to wander through these ten beautiful worlds at their own speed, focusing on the sensory experience of light, wind, and color.
