Google Unveils Fitbit Edge With iPhone Support And Replaceable 7-Day Battery

Google has officially announced the Fitbit Edge, a fitness tracker designed to bridge the gap between the minimalist, screenless Fitbit Air and the feature-rich Pixel Watch 5. The device targets users who demand comprehensive health tracking and a dedicated display but want to avoid the bulk and daily charging requirements of a traditional smartwatch.

Physically, the Fitbit Edge features a recycled aluminum casing that is 11.5 mm thin. Google claims the device is 45% lighter than the Apple Watch Series 12. Its contoured design is intended to sit flush against the wrist, appearing balanced on both slender and larger wrists based on official visual assets. The front is dominated by a Hybrid OLED display, which offers 46% more viewing area than previous-generation Fitbit trackers. A redesigned physical side button has also been introduced, allowing users to manage workouts, navigate menus, and pause tracking without the risk of accidental screen touches.

On the software side, the tracker focuses on continuous biometric monitoring, including heart rate, heart rhythm assessments, and overnight recovery insights via a skin temperature sensor. The device marks the debut of the Google Health Guardian suite in a fitness tracker form factor. This suite monitors long-term wellness trends, such as blood pressure patterns, insulin resistance indicators, and extreme heart rate alerts. Furthermore, Google Health Premium subscribers can access personalized AI coaching that translates biometric trends into actionable fitness plans.

Hardware improvements extend to the GPS chipset, which reportedly offers up to 40% better route tracking accuracy. The exercise application supports over 50 activities, and the device can automatically detect, classify, and log up to 100 different workout types if the user forgets to manually start a session. A significant advantage over standard smartwatches is the battery life, with the Fitbit Edge delivering up to seven full days of use on a single charge.

Perhaps the most notable engineering feat is the device's modular design. The Fitbit Edge is Fitbit's first repairable fitness band, featuring a replaceable battery and a focus on long-term durability. The tracker is water-resistant up to 50 meters (5 ATM and IP68 rated).

The Fitbit Edge is available for pre-order in four aluminum finishes with soft active bands: Obsidian, Fog, Olive, and Canyon, priced at $179.99. Additionally, Google has partnered with NBA champion Stephen Curry for a specialized Stephen Curry Edition, featuring moisture-wicking materials and custom colorways for $220. The full commercial release is expected on October 27.
