Kingpin Embraces ASUS: A Path to New Custom GPUs?
Following the end of his historic nine-year tenure at EVGA in 2022, when the manufacturer shuttered its GPU division, the future of overclocking icon Kingpin seemed uncertain. Now, it appears he is making a comeback, with a strategic focus on ASUS.
New Collaboration and Content Creation
Kingpin has launched a new YouTube channel, Overclock Kingpin, dedicated to his craft of extreme overclocking. His current roadmap includes collaborating with ASUS on DIY PC content and testing high-end hardware from both ASUS and Corsair. While a previous attempt to collaborate with PNY did not materialize, Kingpin has emphasized that strengthening his relationship with ASUS is a high priority.
The Prospect of Custom GPUs
The most significant question remains: will we see a new line of custom-designed GPUs? Unlike EVGA, ASUS does not have exclusivity requirements with NVIDIA, which theoretically allows for potential collaborations on AMD Radeon hardware, such as a future RX 9070 XT.
However, given Kingpin's focus on breaking world records, a high-end NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 remains the most likely candidate for a flagship collaboration. If this partnership succeeds, it could signal the return of the highly anticipated custom GPU designs that defined the legendary EVGA era.
