Get to Know the World of Warcraft: Forever Legacy System
With the introduction of World of Warcraft: Forever, Blizzard Entertainment has announced the Legacy System, a new account-wide horizontal progression mechanic. This system shifts the focus from pure power scaling toward exploring the full breadth of the game's content.
The Legacy System allows players to earn points by completing various tasks, which can then be spent on specific advantages for individual characters. While these Legacy Points are shared across the Battle.net account, players can spend them independently on each character, allowing for specialized builds across their roster.
Legacy Challenges: Earning Your Points
There are 65 Legacy Challenges in total, organized into six distinct categories. Completing a challenge grants one Legacy Point. The categories include:
- Classes: Reaching levels 25, 45, and 60 for each class (27 points).
- Tradeskills: Reaching skill levels 150, 225, and 300 in non-gathering primary professions (18 points).
- PvP: Achieving specific ranks in the Field of Honor PvP Season’s Journey and reaching Exalted with Battleground reputations (12 points).
- Adventure: Full world map exploration and completing the Lord Valthalak dungeon questline (2 points).
- Dungeons & Raids: Defeating final bosses in specific level ranges and completing classic raids like Onyxia, Hyjal Summit, and Barrow Deeps (6 points total).
Legacy Perks: Character Advantages
Players can spend their points in three talent trees. While a cap of 16 points per character will be implemented at launch, a single character can technically earn up to 29 points by completing all available categories (levels, professions, PvP, etc.).
The three talent trees offer:
- Professions: Increased skill point chances, finding rare resources, lower vendor prices, and extra yields in cooking or fishing.
- Adventure: Enhanced rested XP, health/mana regeneration after kills, faster flight costs, and reduced debuff durations.
- Resourcefulness: Longer-lasting buffs, faster raid recovery after wipes, reduced durability loss, and the removal of consumable requirements for certain class abilities.
Rewards and Future Roadmap
Accumulating points on your account also unlocks exclusive cosmetic items. The initial rewards include the Replica Ironforge Air Rifle toy, the Spectral Bear Cub pet, a Spectral Bear Tabard, and the Reins of the Spectral Bear mount.
Blizzard intends to expand the system with every content update, adding new challenges, talent trees, and cosmetic rewards. Additionally, specialized Legacy Challenges for the upcoming Hardcore mode are in development, with specific rules regarding how progress carries over between standard and hardcore playstyles.
