Blizzard Hints at StarCraft Return with Hidden Website Messages
Blizzard has begun displaying hidden messages on the official StarCraft website, a move that appears to hint at a potential return of the franchise just days before BlizzCon 2026. The site now features visual glitches and browser console logs containing military and medical protocols dated August 2575, decades after the events of the original games.
The hidden content includes references to the Aokara Lunar Mining Complex on Roxara, the Theta Squadron, and a secret cargo intended for a research project. One entry logs 14 unidentified life or movement signals in an area with no recorded personnel, followed shortly by a power failure. Binary-coded dialogues also appear, showing failed system access attempts, a user being directed to contact the Dominion Service Desk, and a rejection of inquiries regarding Special Order 176 due to insufficient clearance.
The presentation resembles an Alternate Reality Game (ARG), with fans partially decoding the messages and documenting their findings on the StarCraft subreddit. The timing of this update is notable, as it occurs just days before BlizzCon 2026, scheduled for September 12 and 13 at the Anaheim Convention Center. While Blizzard has not confirmed any new title or presentation, the alteration of the long-dormant brand’s official site suggests an upcoming announcement.
Since 2024, reports have circulated that Blizzard is developing a shooter set in the StarCraft universe under the leadership of former Far Cry producer Dan Hay. In early 2026, unconfirmed claims emerged that an internal version exists, with visuals inspired by the realistic cutscenes of StarCraft II. Blizzard has remained silent on this project. Separately, South Korean media recently reported on negotiations between Blizzard and Nexon regarding a license for a new StarCraft game, which some reports have referred to as a potential successor or StarCraft 3. It is unknown whether these talks are taking place or if they are connected to the hidden website messages, as the shooter and the Nexon project could be two independent endeavors.
At this stage, the only confirmed fact is that Blizzard has placed new content on the StarCraft website. The year 2575, the military protocols, and hints of an out-of-control research project could outline the scenario for a new game. However, these elements might also prepare for a smaller release, new content for existing titles, or another action surrounding BlizzCon. A major return would be significant for the franchise, as StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void released in 2015, Nova Covert Ops episodes followed in 2016, and StarCraft: Remastered arrived in 2017. A previous attempt at a shooter, StarCraft: Ghost, was never released.
