Wuthering Waves to get new Steam launcher and tiered resource downloads
Wuthering Waves developers have announced a significant overhaul of the Steam client update mechanism. During the Version 3.8 maintenance, the game's installation process will transition from the standard Steam method to an official launcher provided by the developers.
The update introduces tiered client resource downloads designed to optimize storage and performance. Instead of a single monolithic package, future versions of the game will offer three distinct tiers—UHD, HD, and SD—based on graphics quality and asset complexity. This allows players to select the download size that best fits their hardware specifications and available disk space.
The transition also brings pre-download support to Steam via the new launcher. This feature will allow players to download assets for upcoming versions in advance, significantly reducing downtime during updates. This functionality is expected to become available once pre-downloads for Version 4.0 begin.
To prevent file conflicts or installation errors during this transition, developers recommend the following steps:
The developers emphasized that this reinstallation process only affects local files. All account data and in-game progress will remain intact and will not be affected by the update.
