Valve makes Retakes defuses instant in latest CS2 update
Valve has released a new update for Counter-Strike 2 that significantly alters the pacing of the Retakes mode. The most notable change is the introduction of instant bomb defusals once all opposing threats are eliminated, provided no active utility interferes with the process.
The update targets one of the more tedious aspects of the Retakes mode: waiting for the defuse bar to finish. Now, once the last Terrorist is dead, the bomb is defused immediately, as long as there is sufficient time remaining in the round and no active utility, such as a Molotov, is blocking the site.
To further improve the flow, Valve has reduced both the freeze time and the round restart delay within the mode. These adjustments aim to keep the momentum high between rounds, preventing unnecessary downtime for players.
The patch also includes several quality-of-life tweaks and technical improvements. Players can now trigger tricks from pet chickens by pinging them during freeze time. Additionally, mapmakers benefit from a major rework of scripting tools, featuring a new Entities export and improved error warnings. For players, custom item text for chickens will now remain hidden if the corresponding setting is enabled.
