Throne and Liberty: Best PvP Builds After Patch 2.2 — Top 5 May 2026

Update 2.2 made significant class balance changes in TL — some former meta builds fell out of the top, while several previously undervalued combinations have risen to the lead. This guide reflects the patch release date.

Meta Overview After 2.2

Patch 2.2 reduced base damage for several weapon schools (Dagger and Storm Staff received -8% to peak DPS) and significantly buffed shield mechanics. This pushed the meta toward more durable builds capable of sustaining prolonged GvG exchanges.

Key PvP change: the new 'CC Fortitude' stat directly reduces the duration of crowd control effects, making investment in this stat mandatory for DPS classes in ranked modes.

Build 1: Dominator (DPS) — Best for 1v1 and Small Groups

Weapons: Crossbow + Sword and Shield
Key Skills: Quick Shot, Crushing Blow, Shield Throw, Rapid Assault
Stat Priority: Agility → Fortitude → Strength

Optimal for duels and small skirmishes (up to 5v5). Combining ranged weapons with a fast close-quarters pivot lets you dictate the combat tempo. After patch 2.2, Shield Throw received an additional cast interrupt — making this build especially dangerous against healers.

Downside: Scales poorly in mass GvG (30+) where AoE burst matters more.

Build 2: Line Guardian (Tank) — Best for GvG and Leveling

Weapons: Sword and Shield + Staff
Key Skills: Unbreakable Wall, Earth Rend, Healing Relic, Taunt
Stat Priority: Fortitude → Endurance → Wisdom

A classic tank that received a direct buff in 2.2: the shield mechanic now blocks 35% of incoming AoE damage (was 20%). Line Guardian is an indispensable anchor for any guild group, especially in castle sieges and zone battles.

The off-hand staff provides minimal ally healing in range, reducing healer pressure in critical moments.

Build 3: Shadow Reaper (Burst DPS) — High Risk, High Reward

Weapons: Dagger + Storm Staff
Key Skills: Lethal Dance, Storm Discharge, Shadow Step, Accumulated Darkness Explosion
Stat Priority: Agility → Strength → Critical Strike

Despite the 2.2 nerf, Shadow Reaper remains dangerous in skilled hands. The 'Accumulated Darkness' mechanic delivers explosive burst every 12 seconds. Requires perfect timing and positional awareness, but in experienced hands — one of the best assassin builds in GvG.

Not recommended for beginners — low survivability on mistakes.

Build 4: Keeper (Heal/Support) — Required in Any Group

Weapons: Staff + Bow (support)
Key Skills: Sacred Stream, Faith Shield, Slowing Arrow Swarm, Chains of Light
Stat Priority: Wisdom → Endurance → Intellect

Patch 2.2 significantly improved heal efficiency: Sacred Stream now captures 6 allies (was 5) and has a reduced cooldown. The Keeper is the backbone of any serious PvP team, and healer demand in ranked mode will surge once the new PvP season launches.

Build 5: Vortex (AoE DPS) — Best for Mass GvG

Weapons: Two-handed Staff + Wand
Key Skills: Hurricane Strike, Ice Field, Chaos Lightning, Vortex of Elements
Stat Priority: Intellect → Strength → Fortitude

The new meta favorite after 2.2 — precisely because competitors were nerfed. Vortex specializes in mass AoE control and zone damage. Ideal for sieges and chokepoint combat where enemy density is highest.

General PvP Rotation Tips

  • Learn CC timers: The new CC Fortitude system means opponents will resist chain control — plan your CC windows in advance.
  • Group smart: GvG in 2.2 penalizes blob tactics — large player clusters receive a damage debuff. A 3+2+2 split works better than a 7-person mob.
  • Watch the rankings: Season 1 of PvP ranking starts May 21 — meta will shift in early weeks, check the official TL patch notes regularly.
