The Duskbloods: Strategic PvPvE Action from FromSoftware

FromSoftware has announced a new action title, The Duskbloods, set to release on the Nintendo Switch 2. The project is directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki and focuses on a PvPvE mode. The game was showcased during a closed network test held from August 21 to 24, 2026.

In addition to the official test, media representatives were given the opportunity to experience a preview build and conduct interviews with the developers. According to the editorial team, this is a unique chance to dive into the atmosphere of a project that combines survival, tactics, and role-playing elements.

The "Twilight Battle" Mechanics and Virtue System

The core gameplay loop of The Duskbloods is called the "Twilight Battle." Matches support 1–8 players and are divided into four phases. In the first two phases, all eight players participate, but by the third phase, the number decreases to six, and in the final phase, only three remain.

A key feature of the game is the "Virtue" system (美徳). Players earn points for various actions: defeating strong enemies or bosses, collecting items, and fulfilling special conditions. It's important to note that killing other players does not always yield Virtue points. For example, in certain zones ("Ceremonial Arenas"), points can only be earned by protecting objects or assisting other players.

Characters and Their Abilities

In the network test, six characters were available, each with a unique set of skills. All belong to the "Blood Clan" (血族) and possess both melee and ranged combat capabilities.

  • Albert: uses a sword and machine gun. His ability allows him to throw blades made of blood.
  • Yang "Hand of Blood": wields an axe and fire. His ability includes rapid aerial dodges.
  • Tan-Lun: uses a moon-blade that can be thrown like a chakram. Also possesses stealth abilities and control over minions.
  • Raila "Sniper": specializes in a sniper rifle and close-quarters combat with katars.
  • Samir-Patres "Elder": uses a rapier, rings with bird spirits, and the ability to transform into a dinosaur.
  • Zoek: wears a diving suit, uses spearguns and torpedoes. His ability allows for powerful rocket attacks.

Each character can develop their skills through an experience-based leveling system. Players can also summon allies ("minions") and use special spells to enhance their capabilities.

Role-Playing Elements and Interaction

The game encourages role-playing behavior through the "Seal" system (烙印). Players can choose various objectives: for example, kill a certain number of enemies or help other players. Fulfilling these conditions grants additional Virtue points.

A crucial part of the gameplay is interaction with NPCs. Players can summon allies and use them to complete tasks. Additionally, small enemies can be subdued using special abilities.

Conclusion

The Duskbloods represents a unique project from FromSoftware that combines survival, tactics, and role-playing elements. The game is divided into phases where players must balance battles with NPCs and conflicts among themselves.

According to the editorial team, this is an excellent example of how to create a deep and engaging game that goes beyond simple player-versus-player combat. The project promises to be an exciting and strategic experience for fans of action games from FromSoftware.
