The Longest TGS Ever: First Day of Tokyo Game Show 2026

The 30th anniversary of Tokyo Game Show 2026 has officially kicked off at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan. This year marks a historic milestone as the event has been extended to five days for the first time. The schedule includes two business days on September 17–18, followed by three days of public access from September 19 to 21.

Even before the general public arrived, the venue was buzzing with industry professionals and media members eager to get a first look at upcoming titles. The expansion in duration has allowed for a massive presence from developers and publishers across the halls.

Capcom made a significant impact in Halls 7 and 8, offering playable demos of Dragon's Dogma 2 alongside showcases for Resident Evil, Mega Man, and Monster Hunter. Nearby, Nexon set up an immersive area for Mabinogi Mobile, featuring a Tir Chulainn-inspired campfire zone and various photo spots.

Other major highlights from the first day include:

  • The Sony booth, featuring Grand Theft Auto VI;
  • Bandai Namco, showcasing Gundam and Ace Combat;
  • Square Enix, highlighting Final Fantasy VII Rebirth;
  • Sega and Atlus, with a beautifully decorated Persona 4 revival area;
  • Konami, featuring Rhapsody in Scarlet;
  • Koei Tecmo, with demos for Attack on Titan and Wulong 2.

Tokyo Game Show 2026 will continue through next Monday, marking its longest run to date.
