Pareidolia: Nexon Games Unveils 'Home in Another World' Concept at TGS 2026

At Tokyo Game Show 2026, Nexon Games showcased new details regarding their upcoming project, Pareidolia. Moving beyond previous teasers, the developers provided the first gameplay glimpse, framing the title as a "home-stay" experience focused on the cozy atmosphere of daily life in a fantasy setting.

In an interview following the demonstration, PD Cha Min-seo described the core concept of the RX Studio project as a sense of "returning home." Set in the city of Anima, players take on the role of a manager at the Tasogarekan dormitory, interacting with unique girls known as "Meits." The gameplay emphasizes domesticity—shopping, cooking, and managing daily life—to foster a strong emotional connection between players and characters.

The combat system utilizes a "Live Turn Battle" mechanic, blending turn-based strategy with real-time elements. Players must time their actions to coincide with predictable enemy patterns to maximize the efficiency of area-of-effect abilities. Additionally, a gauge system allows characters to trigger extra turns, adding a layer of strategic depth to the encounters.

A key technological highlight of Pareidolia is the integration of proprietary voice recognition technology developed by Nexon. IO Division Head Kim Yong-ha confirmed that the feature operates via on-device AI, ensuring high performance on mobile platforms. Currently, the technology is used for selecting dialogue options and calling characters, with developers intending to expand its scope based on player feedback from the show.

While many view this as a spiritual successor to Blue Archive, the team emphasized that Pareidolia is a distinct new IP. The developers aim to move away from repetitive visual tropes, such as halos, focusing instead on character individuality through unique clothing styles and ultimate ability animations. The game is being developed for multi-platform release (mobile, PC, and consoles), with more details regarding a closed beta test (CBT) and a release date expected in the future.
