Tales Take a Dark Turn in Midnight’s Talebound
Blizzard Entertainment has unveiled details regarding Talebound, a new game mode for Midnight. Arriving as part of the Echoes of the Worldcore content update, this mode introduces a macabre, story-driven experience where players navigate themed levels filled with bosses, puzzles, and treasures to uncover dark folklore.
The World of Talebound and Quillgrave
In Talebound, players can venture through adventures either solo or with friends. Between excursions into the darkness, players return to Quillgrave, a cozy, lantern-lit village that serves as a safe haven for rest and preparation. This hub allows players to strategize and recover before facing the next chapter of the narrative.
The launch of Talebound will feature four distinct stories, each presenting unique settings, enemies, and boss encounters:
- Darkhaven: Featuring Konrad von Sonnesheim (The Lord Marshal) and Alexandre Dozsenc (The Blood Bishop).
- Greenthistle Wood: Home to Granny Greenthumb, Ylska Vilefang, and the giant Mobog.
- Greywake's Expedition: A journey facing Zzyg'th (The Hadal Tyrant) and Chathoa (The Herald from Beyond).
- Grove of the Night Court: A chronicle involving Tilywth (The Fairy Queen) and Maernok (The Nightmare King).
Playable Classes and Combat Mechanics
Combat in Talebound emphasizes movement and defense. All classes possess the ability to double jump, dodge, and guard, making positioning a vital element of gameplay. Three distinct classes have been confirmed:
- Slayer: A martial combatant using swords and guns. Key abilities include Slash, Explosive Shot, Minefield, Shrapnel Round, Throwing Knives, and Silver Bolt.
- Inquisitor: A holy-themed class capable of casting while moving. Abilities include Purify, Condemn, Denounce, Light’s Wrath, Rapture, and Radiant Burst.
- Witch: A spellcaster utilizing elemental and nature-based magic. Notable abilities include Brewing Storm, Bubbling Cauldron, Feline Communion, Winter Spiders, Moonlight Ravens, and Thorns.
Progression and Rewards
To improve survivability, players can interact with several NPCs in Quillgrave to enhance their character for future runs:
- Arcanist: Provides potions, draughts, and flasks.
- Scribe: Offers talents to modify abilities.
- Outfitter: Improves base stats like health, damage, energy, and focus.
- Antiquarian: Grants passive augmentations for specific tales.
Players can also earn various cosmetic rewards, including the Ensemble: Witch Hunter's Shadow Attire transmog set, home decorations like the Quillgrave Storyteller’s Lectern, and the Shadowbound Storybook mount. An early preview of Talebound is expected to arrive on the PTR in October.
