STRANGER THAN HEAVEN: A Journey Through Decades Revealed
RGG Studio has unveiled new details regarding their upcoming action-adventure title STRANGER THAN HEAVEN. Developed by SEGA, the game promises an epic saga spanning 50 years of the protagonist's life, taking players across different eras and nations.
The narrative follows Makoto Daito (voiced by Yu Hashirada), a man of mixed heritage whose journey begins in 1915 San Francisco. After being scapegoated by the local police, he attempts to stow away on a ship to reach his mother's homeland, Japan. Along the way, he encounters Yu Mashiro (voiced by Dean Fujioka) and the ship's captain, Orpheus (voiced by Snoop Dogg), setting the stage for a life-altering odyssey.

The gameplay and world structure evolve alongside the historical setting:

- 1915, Kokura (Japan): As Daito begins his life in the underworld of trade and smuggling, players explore the streets, scavenge for items, and engage in early-stage combat.
- 1929, Kure (Japan): Set during the Roaring Twenties, this era features underground gambling dens and a more intense combat system involving dodges and parries.
- 1943, Osaka (Japan): By the wartime era, Daito has risen to become a prominent show business mogul. The gameplay shifts toward managing entertainment ventures, where players collect musical inspirations to curate performances and influence the atmosphere of their shows.

The team at RGG Studio emphasizes historical authenticity and environmental detail. Combat mechanics include cinematic finishers, weapon upgrading, and unique buffs, such as using specialized tobacco blends. STRANGER THAN HEAVEN is scheduled for release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S on January 15, 2027.
