Stellar Blade on Switch 2 to feature optional frame generation
SHIFTUP has revised the technical implementation for the Nintendo Switch 2 port of Stellar Blade. Following feedback from players who tested the demo, the developers have decided to make frame generation an optional feature rather than a mandatory one.
AMD FSR 3.1 and performance trade-offs
Earlier, SHIFTUP CTO and technical director DongKi Lee revealed that the game would utilize AMD FSR 3.1 to boost the framerate from 30 to 60 fps in both handheld and docked modes. This implementation is intended to help the title reach higher smoothness levels on the Nintendo Switch 2 hardware.
While the team emphasized that the interpolation was carefully tuned to maintain consistent frame-pacing, frame generation remains a polarizing technology. Some players prefer to avoid the potential input latency or visual artifacts associated with interpolated frames, opting instead for a native experience.
Responding to player feedback
The decision to add a toggle comes directly after the release of the Stellar Blade Complete Edition demo. SHIFTUP stated on social media that they have been closely monitoring community feedback and want to ensure players can choose the experience that feels best to them.
As a current-gen title being brought to the Nintendo Switch 2, Stellar Blade requires certain technical compromises to maintain performance. By providing a toggle, SHIFTUP allows users to choose between the enhanced 60 fps smoothness provided by FSR 3.1 and a standard 30 fps mode for those who prefer native frame delivery.
