Steam Frame launch imminent as Valve adds reservation system

Valve appears to be preparing for the imminent launch of the Steam Frame, a self-contained VR headset capable of running games natively without an external PC.

The company has added a reservation system to the product's store page, mirroring the approach previously used for the Steam Deck and Steam Machine. While the feature is not yet live, Valve-focused dataminer Brad Lynch spotted that the back-end infrastructure is already in place. The announcement is expected to go public later this week or next, followed by reviews and initial shipments towards the end of September or early October.

Given the supply constraints seen with the Steam Machine, Valve may run a lottery before opening general orders. Interested customers might be asked to sign up for a one-time randomization process to determine who can place an order first, with the reservation list worked through month-by-month as new stock arrives. The exact price remains unknown, though expectations suggest it will be on the expensive side due to its internal hardware requirements.
