Star Wars: Zero Company devs reportedly furloughed without pay

According to a report from Game File, Bit Reactor furloughed the majority of its staff just weeks before the launch of Star Wars: Zero Company, leaving many developers without pay while a smaller team remained on payroll to handle post-launch support.

The report cites a source stating that approximately 80% of the game's development team was impacted by the furloughs. Although these employees remain on the books at Bit Reactor, they are currently not receiving salaries. The studio reportedly ran low on funds ahead of the release, prompting the decision to pause payments for most of the team while retaining a small group to address any bugs following the game's launch.

A spokesperson for Bit Reactor told Game File that the decision to furlough staff was made solely by the studio and was not an instruction from publisher Electronic Arts. The studio expressed hope that it could bring the furloughed staff back onto payroll in the future, with the spokesperson suggesting that the commercial success of Star Wars: Zero Company could be a factor in whether that happens.

Zachariah Scott, a former technical artist who claims to have been fired by Bit Reactor in May, accused the company of concealing the furloughs in a LinkedIn post. He later told Game File that furloughed staff he spoke with were not confident that everyone would be able to return to their pre-furlough roles, even if the studio manages to bring some employees back.

The news of the furloughs has emerged amid ongoing legal action between Bit Reactor co-founders Greg Foertsch and Alison Kelly. Kelly has filed a lawsuit against Foertsch, with the case primarily revolving around ownership of the studio. The trial is set to take place in early 2027, and both parties are currently engaged in filing and denying various claims against each other.
