Silent Hill: Townfall creators break down PS5 features
Screen Burn Interactive developers have shared insights into how PS5 features will be integrated into Silent Hill: Townfall. The game is scheduled for release on September 24.
In a recent deep dive, Series Producer Motoi Okamoto and Director Jon McKellan detailed the focus of the upcoming title. Silent Hill: Townfall marks the first full-length entry in the franchise to adopt a first-person perspective, a move designed to heighten immersion and make sound a vital gameplay element.

The traditional radio is replaced by a device known as the CRTV. Players will hold this device to scout roaming monsters, uncover puzzle clues, and explore the island. The narrative is expected to be delivered in a fragmented manner through environmental storytelling and puzzles, gradually revealing a gruesome history.

The developers aim for a horror experience driven by escalating uncertainty rather than jump scares. To achieve this, they are leveraging several core technologies:

- 3D Audio: Working with Audio Director Byron Bullock and composer Pilotpriest, the team has developed custom 3D audio systems to provide a sense of depth and spatial awareness.
- Ray-traced Lighting: This will enhance the atmospheric fog and ensure environments react realistically to flashlight beams or the sudden shifts into the Otherworld.
- DualSense Integration: Haptic Feedback will convey the weight of weapon swings and enemy footsteps, while Adaptive Triggers will provide unique tactile sensations for different firearms. Motion controls will also be available for fine-tuning the CRTV and aiming.

The setting, St. Amelia, is described as a town that feels recently traumatized rather than long-abandoned, providing a sense of a lived-in community that has recently faced disaster.
