Sensor Tower data shows the yawning gap between GTA 6 and everything else
An analysis from Sensor Tower shows that GTA 6 is significantly ahead of major AAA hits from the past six years in terms of preorder numbers.
The analytics firm compared the preorder trajectories of massive hits like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2022), Diablo 4 (2023), Hogwarts Legacy (2023), and Marvel's Spider-Man 2 (2023). Currently, GTA 6 is 148% ahead of Modern Warfare 2 at this point before launch.
To put this in perspective, Modern Warfare 2 was a massive success, with preorder numbers more than double those of Diablo 4 at 45 days from launch. It also secured a $800 million opening weekend for the Call of Duty franchise. However, GTA 6 is operating on a different scale.
As of October 13, Sensor Tower estimates that GTA 6 has reached 6.08 million preorders, equating to approximately $594 million in revenue. The breakdown of these preorders is as follows:

- 74% on PlayStation;
- 26% on Xbox;
- the vast majority were for the $100 Ultimate Edition.
It is important to note that this data only covers digital preorders in the United States and does not include boxed releases. Despite these limitations, industry analysts predict GTA 6 could sell between 30 million and over 50 million units within its first year of release.
