Seasonic Prime RX-1600 becomes first ATX PSU with 80 PLUS Ruby certification

Seasonic has become the first manufacturer to receive an ATX 3.1 power supply with the new 80 PLUS Ruby certification, marking a significant shift in efficiency standards for desktop workstations.

The Seasonic Prime RX-1600, rated at 1,600 watts, achieved this distinction after testing at 115 volts. The official report from CLEAResult documents peak efficiencies reaching up to 95.38% under specific load points, with the highest efficiency occurring at 20% load rather than the typical mid-range sweet spot.

Ruby certification was previously associated mainly with redundant server power supplies in data centers. By applying this tier to an internal ATX unit for high-end desktops and workstations, Seasonic is effectively raising the bar for consumer-grade efficiency requirements beyond Platinum and Titanium levels.

While the 80 PLUS seal focuses strictly on conversion efficiency and electrical parameters like power factor, it does not cover voltage regulation, noise, or transient response. Users should expect that while this unit minimizes waste heat during operation, separate testing is required to confirm its suitability for specific high-draw GPUs.
