SanDisk launches compact, drop-resistant Portable SSD (V3) lineup
SanDisk has officially launched its Portable SSD (V3) lineup (model SDSSDE31), targeting everyday users in need of a reliable and easy-to-use external storage solution. The series is designed for frequent data access and backups in a compact form factor.
Performance and Specifications
The new drives are designed for portability, measuring 45 x 85 x 10 mm and weighing just 33.2g. The lineup is available in three capacities: 500GB, 1TB, and 2TB. According to SanDisk, all models deliver sequential read speeds of up to 1,000 MB/s when connected via a USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10Gb/s) port. While specific write speeds were not disclosed, the manufacturer noted they will be lower than the read speeds, which is typical for this class of hardware.
While 1,000 MB/s is significantly lower than SanDisk's premium high-speed range (which can reach 4,000 MB/s), it remains nearly double the speed of the fastest SATA SSDs, making it more than sufficient for students and office professionals.
Durability and Compatibility
Beyond performance, the V3 series emphasizes reliability. These slim drives have no moving parts and are rated to withstand drops from up to 2 meters. For users seeking extra peace of mind, SanDisk offers an optional paid data recovery plan.
In terms of compatibility, the drives work with most devices supporting external storage, including PCs and laptops running Windows 10 or macOS 13, as well as smartphones running Android 13 or iOS 15. To utilize the full 1,000 MB/s speed, a USB 3.2 Gen 2 or faster interface is required.

- 500GB: $99.99
- 1TB: $159.99
