RTX Remix for Minecraft: Path Tracing and DLSS 5
NVIDIA has announced the RTX Remix 1.6 update, headlined by the beta release of an RTX Remix mod for Minecraft: Java Edition. This update brings full path tracing to the sandbox classic, reimagining its blocky environments with advanced lighting, realistic materials, and AI-driven rendering technologies.
Minecraft with Path Tracing and DLSS
The beta release for Minecraft: Java Edition (v1.21.1) leverages NVIDIA RTX Dynamic Illumination and Global Illumination to transform the game's lighting. The system can render thousands of shadow-casting lights simultaneously, enabling realistic light bounces—such as sunlight filtering through caves or light refracting through stained glass. By utilizing PBR (Physically-Based Rendering) resource packs, blocks now exhibit realistic properties like reflection, refraction, and subsurface scattering, which is particularly visible in translucent materials like ice.

To help users get started, the release includes a sample world from Blockworks and a high-resolution material pack from NVIDIA Lightspeed Studios. To run the mod, users require Minecraft: Java Edition 1.21.1 and a GeForce RTX 30 series GPU or newer with updated drivers.
Technical Advancements in RTX Remix 1.6
Beyond the Minecraft integration, version 1.6 introduces several significant features for modders and players:

- DLSS 5 with 3D-Guided Neural Rendering: This AI-driven feature enhances lighting and material details frame-by-frame, allowing modders to achieve high-fidelity visuals similar to modern AAA titles.
- DLSS Multi Frame Generation: An update to the frame generation technology that can accelerate frame rates by up to 6x.
- ComfyUI 2.0 Integration: A streamlined AI-assisted workflow for generating textures and meshes, giving creators more precise control over asset creation.
- RTX Spark Support: Native support for RTX Spark, bringing advanced rendering capabilities to power-efficient Windows laptops and compact PCs.
The update also addresses visual fidelity with Shadow Terminator optimizations to reduce jagged artifacts on low-polygon surfaces, alongside new rendering options like Sparse Rendering and SHaRC (Spatially Hashed Radiance Cache).
