Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy — Why This Is Far More Than A Plague Tale 3
After two beloved games in a broadly similar style, Asobo Studio decided to take a huge leap forward. Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is not just another chapter in the saga, but a bold step away from stealth towards full action-adventure.
The team shares their insights on breaking the mold after Requiem, explaining why they chose to stick with the lore while reinventing core mechanics and exploring forgotten worlds.
Why change the genre now?
David Dedeine, Co-founder of Asobo Studio, explains that Hugo's fate at the end of A Plague Tale: Requiem made a traditional 'A Plague Tale 3' impossible. The team felt the need to explore other types of topics, subjects, or moods.

The project focuses on Sophia, a character who started as a sidekick but became so compelling that the whole team fell in love with her. Her personality is more active and aggressive compared to Amicia, making her a great match for combat-oriented gameplay.
Instead of centering the story around Basilius, which would have felt too much like 'A Plague Tale 3', the developers kept the desire for more combat but with a different duo, storytelling style, and journey. The tone is lighter, though not a happy story — it remains true to the franchise's identity.
