Remedy Q3 revenue triples to €39.6m following launch of Control Resonant
Remedy's third-quarter revenue surged by 226%, reaching €39.6 million. CEO Jean-Charles Gaudechon described the successful launch of Control Resonant on September 24 as a defining milestone for the company.
The revenue spike was primarily driven by pre-orders and the first week of sales for Control Resonant. Although the physical release occurred on October 15, after the financial review period, the title has already surpassed one million units sold, making it Remedy's fastest-selling game to date.
Sales data shows that the US accounted for nearly half of the game's PC and console sales. On PC, Chinese-speaking regions and the UK ranked second and third. On consoles, the UK, Canada, and Brazil took the second, third, and fourth positions, respectively.
The launch also served as a tool for audience expansion: nearly half of the players in Control Resonant were new to the Control franchise. Additionally, the original 2019 Control saw increased sales, outperforming both the same period last year and the first two quarters of the current year.
Game sales and royalties made up the bulk of the €39.6 million revenue, totaling €35 million. This includes €4.3 million in development fees from the Max Payne 1 & 2 remake and final accruals for Resonant under the Annapurna agreement. Remedy noted that as a self-publisher, the company now directly incurs royalty expenses and platform fees, though these costs are expected to decrease once initial investments are recouped.
While the Alan Wake franchise had a quieter quarter, the company confirmed that development costs for Alan Wake 2 have been fully depreciated. Looking ahead, Remedy aims to leverage the 2.4 million wishlists for its upcoming projects to build on the foundation established by the Control franchise.
