Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro spotted on black market for $42
Engineering samples of Qualcomm’s next-gen Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro (codename SM8975) have appeared on the Chinese black market for a suspiciously low price of roughly $42. The listing, which vanished quickly from Goofish, offered chips allegedly removed from test boards for repair or rework.
The seller’s photos showed an integrated heat-spreading component above the silicon and listed a placeholder price of 300 CNY (around $42), though the actual cost was reportedly negotiable. Qualcomm has not officially confirmed these samples, their specifications, or their intended use.
Previous leaks associate SM8975 with TSMC’s 2nm process, a 2+3+3 Oryon CPU configuration, and support for LPDDR5X/LPDDR6 memory. Qualcomm recently teased two upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite chips ahead of the Snapdragon Summit 2026, scheduled to begin on September 22.

While the appearance of engineering samples is not uncommon, the low price and lack of official confirmation suggest these units are likely intended for evaluation or development rather than consumer purchase. Qualcomm has not yet announced its next flagship chip, so details remain speculative until the official event.
