AMD FSR Frame Generation pacing issues persist despite updates

AMD still hasn’t fixed FSR Frame Generation’s frame pacing problem, according to new testing by Hardware Unboxed. Despite updates to the machine learning-based FSR 4 implementation, inconsistent frame pacing persists on modern hardware like the Radeon RX 9070 XT.

The core issue isn’t the generation of intermediate frames itself, but rather how those frames reach the display. Tests using AMD Software 26.7.1 revealed that generated and rendered frames can remain on screen for different durations, creating a repeating “double tap” pattern. This causes motion to feel less smooth than a properly paced output, even if the game reports high frame rates like 120 FPS.

The problem affects both native FSR 4 and older titles using FSR 3.1 that were upgraded via driver updates. Games such as Cyberpunk continue to exhibit these pacing inconsistencies, suggesting that the underlying mechanism for delivering generated frames remains unresolved in current drivers.
