Path of Exile 2: Best Starter Builds for Patch 0.5.0 — Return of the Ancients
Patch 0.5.0 Return of the Ancients overhauled the Atlas of Worlds and Path of Exile 2's endgame. Poison builds and ES recovery were nerfed; attack builds got buffed. This guide covers the four best starter builds for June 2026.
Return of the Ancients is PoE 2's biggest update since launch. The new Runes of Aldur league brought major balance changes that reshuffled the metagame.
Patch 0.5.0 Meta Changes
- Poison builds: multiple significant nerfs, proliferation effectiveness reduced
- ES recovery: nerfed across the board for shield-dependent mechanics
- Runes: meaningful buffs; attack-based builds strengthened
- New in-game Build Planner tool added
Top 1: Walking Calamity Autobomber
The consensus best build of patch 0.5.0. You move through maps and all surrounding monsters are automatically cleared by meteor showers. Excellent map clear, minimal effort required.
Class: Witch / Invoker
Type: Autobomber
Difficulty: Medium
Top 2: Twister (Whirling Assault)
The most popular league starter. Whirling Assault generates Twisters that clear the screen. Best for speed-farming maps.
Class: Warrior
Type: Melee AoE
Difficulty: Low
Top 3: Lightning Arrow Deadeye
The fastest map-clearing ranged build. Weaker on bosses but compensates with map-running speed. Ideal for currency farming.
Class: Ranger / Deadeye
Type: Ranged AoE
Difficulty: Low
Top 4: Stormweaver
A stable all-around build minimally affected by the 0.5.0 nerfs. Doesn't rely on ES regeneration or leech. Works well for both mapping and bosses.
Class: Sorceress / Stormweaver
Type: Spell Caster
Difficulty: Medium
What to Avoid
Poison mechanics and Poison Proliferation builds took heavy hits. Old ES-heavy builds with strong shield dependency need reworking. If you had a tested setup from patch 0.4.x, review it before starting the league.
