Once Human in July: Why QBJ97, SN700, and Dreamy Maelstrom Matter for Builds
Once Human is preparing not just rewards, but a new layer of build experimentation.
Why the July Block Matters
On July 2, Once Human revealed two connected topics: the Dreamy Maelstrom second anniversary event and July weapons/armor. Both point in the same direction: the game wants to strengthen its seasonal loop through rewards, random builds, Deviations, and blueprint goals rather than only adding items.
The key date for the weapons and armor is the version update on Thursday, July 9 PT. July 2 gives us official descriptions and the anniversary warm-up, not immediate access to every item.
QBJ97 and SN700: Two Damage Ideas
QBJ97 - Fiery Trees and Silver Flowers is listed as an Anniversary event reward. After the July 9 version update, players can claim it by signing in. Hits can apply Unstable Bomber, firing can launch a missile, the missile chance grows with shots and resets when firing stops, and missile explosions can also apply Unstable Bomber.
SN700 - Finale enters through the Blueprints system. Its logic is different: hits can trigger Shrapnel, Weakspot hits guarantee Shrapnel, and Shrapnel grants a stack effect that increases the number of body parts hit by Shrapnel while reducing recoil. Some stack names are hidden in the source text, so this article does not invent missing labels.
What the Armor Changes
New gear includes Wind Intepreter Cap, Ankh Mask, and Ghost Link Set. One piece increases Crit rate; two pieces increase Reload efficiency. Three pieces can grant Weapon DMG Boost stacks up to 10 for 10 seconds. Four pieces trigger a state at 10 stacks that damages the player and nearby targets every second for 5 seconds.
That is interesting because the set is not a pure bonus. It promises power, but adds a cost and demands situational control.
Dreamy Maelstrom as a Build Lab
Dreamy Maelstrom begins after the July 9 PT update and runs until July 30. The reservation campaign runs from July 1 to July 9. The core mode is Dreamy Rift: a one-to-four-player battlefield with timed enemy waves, where players choose one enhancement from three Mod options after every two waves.
Overclock mods add exaggerated effects such as omnidirectional shrapnel, instant-kill on low health, and infinite bounce. Hard difficulty adds environmental challenges such as meteorites, black rain, and thick fog; clearing hard opens endless mode. Enemies can drop random Deviations stored in the event securement box, and players can withdraw any 10 during the event.
Where the Player Risk Is
The main risk is overreading promises before the version goes live. Weapons, armor, and Dreamy Rift look rich, but exact percentages, best rotations, and true set value require live testing. The correct conclusion today is not 'new meta confirmed', but 'these systems may expand build experimentation'.
Once Human smartly connects the anniversary to daily reasons to log in: event rewards, Deviations, a sign-in weapon, a blueprint weapon, and a risk-based armor set. If balance does not collapse into one obvious build, July can become a strong month for variety.
