NVIDIA simplifies DLSS 5 modding for classic PC games with RTX Remix 1.6
NVIDIA has released RTX Remix 1.6, enabling modders to integrate DLSS 5 with 3D-Guided Neural Rendering into classic PC games. This update allows the community to bring advanced AI-driven visual enhancements to older titles without waiting for official developer support.
Neural Rendering for Legacy Titles
The RTX Remix toolkit is designed to let gamers manually overhaul older games by replacing textures, materials, and lighting, and adding path tracing. With the 1.6 update, DLSS 5 expands these capabilities by utilizing AI to enhance material detail, reflections, shadows, and overall lighting quality.
The update introduces controls that allow modders to select different neural rendering models and adjust their effects on specific objects or materials. Early community demonstrations are already showcasing these features: the Fallout 4 RTX project (by Sparkles/Kim2091) demonstrates improved armor reflections and shadow detail, while the Mirror’s Edge RTX project (by SoftSoundd) showcases updated contact shadows and ambient occlusion. Both projects remain under active development.
Technical Enhancements and Platform Support
Beyond DLSS 5 integration, RTX Remix 1.6 introduces several significant technical updates:
- Support for 5X and 6X Multi Frame Generation on compatible hardware.
- Introduction of Preset C, NVIDIA's faster Frame Generation Performance Mode.
- Sparse rendering support via DLSS Ray Reconstruction.
- HDR texture support and expanded AI-assisted modding tools through ComfyUI 2.0.
Additionally, the update includes experimental support for Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.1 via a Fabric mod and adds native Windows on ARM support, including for RTX Spark devices. The latest 1.6.1 runtime is available via the NVIDIA App and GitHub.
