NVIDIA invests $3.5B in MediaTek for NVLink Fusion
NVIDIA has committed $3.5 billion to purchase convertible bonds issued by MediaTek, a move that deepens the two companies' collaboration across AI infrastructure, local computing, and automotive platforms. The deal, announced on Monday, positions MediaTek as a key design partner for custom AI accelerators built on NVLink Fusion.
The partnership centers on custom AI hardware, with MediaTek adopting the NVLink Fusion platform to help cloud service providers, frontier model developers, and hyperscalers build specialized processing dies. By integrating these custom chips directly into NVIDIA's rack-scale MGX architectures, the collaboration aims to reduce development complexity and accelerate time-to-market for large-scale AI deployments.
Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA, stated that the partnership leverages MediaTek's expertise in system-on-chip design, connectivity, and power efficiency. "Together, we're building platforms that bring NVIDIA accelerated computing to new markets and give customers the freedom to create differentiated AI systems at enormous scale," Huang said. The emphasis on scale reflects the challenge of deploying custom accelerators across sprawling AI factories without encountering significant networking bottlenecks.
Beyond data center infrastructure, the agreement covers local AI computing, where the two firms plan to continue collaborating on future generations of RTX Spark and DGX Spark devices. In the automotive sector, the partnership will combine MediaTek's automotive SoC design capabilities with NVIDIA's DRIVE AGX hardware and software stack to develop software-defined vehicle platforms.
Through this $3.5 billion investment, NVIDIA secures a major design partner across cloud, client, and automotive markets. The deal ensures that MediaTek's custom silicon remains deeply integrated into NVIDIA's hardware roadmap, keeping the company's ecosystem at the center of the push for differentiated AI systems.
