Nintendo Switch 2 sells 5.1 million units in 30 days — a new Nintendo record
Nintendo announced that Switch 2 sold 5.1 million units in its first 30 days on sale. This sets a new Nintendo sales record: the original Switch reached the same milestone in approximately 10 months. The Game Boy Advance — previously Nintendo's fastest seller — sold about 1.5 million units in its first month in Japan.
Regional breakdown
Nintendo did not break down sales by region in the official announcement, but third-party retail tracking suggests:
- Japan — sold out at launch, with queues reported at major retailers in Tokyo and Osaka
- North America — strong pre-order fulfilment; unit availability returned to normal within two weeks
- Europe — highest attach rate for Mario Kart World, which reportedly sold with 80%+ of consoles in the first week
Software: Mario Kart World leads
Mario Kart World is the standout software launch, with Nintendo confirming over 4 million copies sold — an attach rate exceeding 78% of hardware units. The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom and Donkey Kong Bananza round out the top three.
Hardware supply situation
Unlike the original Switch and Switch (OLED) launches — both of which suffered extended periods of stock shortages — Switch 2 supply appears to have normalised faster. Nintendo's manufacturing partnerships, expanded post-pandemic, allowed more units to ship at launch.
What comes next
Nintendo's next major first-party release for Switch 2 is Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, scheduled for July 2026. The company also teased a Direct presentation focused on third-party Switch 2 titles for late May.
