Nintendo Switch 2 Price Rises to $500 in U.S. Starting September — Console Nears 20 Million Units Sold
Nintendo has officially confirmed a price increase for the Switch 2. Starting September 1, 2026, the console will cost $499.99 in the U.S. (up from $449.99). In Japan, the price already rose on May 25: from ¥49,980 to ¥59,980. Europe (€469.99→€499.99) and Canada price hikes follow in Fall 2026.
Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa cited rising memory and storage costs due to the global GDDR7 shortage and the Samsung workers' strike.
Sales: The Switch 2 sold 19.86 million units in its first fiscal year (April 2025–March 2026), surpassing the original Switch's launch pace. Mario Kart World alone sold 14.70 million copies.
Per GIGAZINE (May 25, 2026), Nintendo has raised its production target to 20 million units by March 2027 — 20% above its previous guidance of 16.5 million.
