NEOGEO AES+ at TGS2026: A Modern Hardware Revival from SNK and PLAION REPLAI

At TGS2026, SNK and PLAION REPLAI unveiled the NEOGEO AES+, a modern hardware revival of the legendary NEOGEO home console. Unlike software-based mini consoles, this is a full hardware recreation designed to deliver the authentic arcade experience in a contemporary format.

The NEOGEO AES+ is scheduled for release on September 16, 2027, following a delay from its original November 2026 window due to component shortages. The console is priced at ¥32,800, with launch titles expected to cost ¥9,980 per cartridge.

Key technical features include:

• HDMI output supporting 1080p and 720p resolutions, alongside analog ports for legacy CRT televisions.
• Physical DIP switches on the chassis for adjusting resolution, aspect ratio, screen rotation, and overclocking.
• Hybrid arcade-style controllers supporting both wired and wireless connections.
• A hidden Main Menu mode for system testing and switching between HOME and MVS modes.

The hardware is designed for true compatibility, supporting original NEOGEO cartridges, memory cards, and even MVS arcade boards via an adapter. Announced titles include Metal Slug, The King of Fighters 2002, Garou: Mark of the Wolves, and Zero Wing. Notably, Zero Wing will receive an official release on this platform, licensed from TATSUJIN. Additionally, developers confirmed that Samurai Shodown Zero Special will feature uncensored content, restoring the original arcade-level intensity to the home version.
