Muramasa: Revenant Blades launches February 4, 2027
Muramasa: Revenant Blades, the highly anticipated remastered action RPG from Vanillaware and Marvelous, is officially set to launch on PlayStation platforms on February 4, 2027. The studio has unveiled a new gameplay trailer and detailed visuals that highlight the game's revitalized high-definition world, enhanced sword-fighting mechanics, and a fresh English voice-over track. This release combines the original Muramasa: Rebirth for PlayStation Vita with its side-story DLC, Genroku Legends, into a single, complete experience designed for modern hardware.
The core of Muramasa: Revenant Blades revolves around six distinct playable protagonists, each offering a unique narrative journey set in Japan during the Genroku era—a time when supernatural phenomena run rampant. Players can choose to experience these six tales in any order they prefer, exploring stories ranging from characters possessed by the cursed sword Muramasa to those seeking vengeance or pursuing love with unwavering passion.

Combat in the game has been refined for PS5, featuring intuitive controls that allow players to chain normal attacks into combos while mixing in dashes and jumps for fluid movement across ground and air. The system supports parrying enemy strikes and deflecting ranged attacks with precise timing. For veteran players, the controls offer significant depth, enabling spectacular sword-fighting moves that are easy to grasp but difficult to master.

Skills serve as the key to battle, accessible through a single button press to unleash powerful single strikes, wide-area attacks, or ranged abilities. Players can combine these with standard attacks to overwhelm enemies with relentless combos. Through the guidance of the swordsmith Muramasa, characters like Kisuke and Momohime can forge new swords imbued with powerful skills, while others such as Okoi, Gonbe, Arashimaru, and Rajaki can undergo training to learn new abilities and create charms that grant special effects.

Progression is driven by collecting souls obtained from defeated enemies. As players master skills on the ground and in the air, they can assign up to three mastered skills for each combat mode and switch between them freely using the directional pad. The more a skill is used, the more proficient the character becomes, increasing its potency. Experimenting with different combinations allows players to find pairings that suit their specific playstyle.

Beyond the main campaign, the title includes a variety of supplemental content such as the Scroll, an illustration gallery, a Character Viewer for admiring animations and backgrounds, and a Replay mode to relive events from the journey. Additionally, a classic mode is included featuring the original PlayStation Vita versions of Muramasa: The Demon Blade and Genroku Legends, allowing fans to experience these nostalgic adventures with beautifully enhanced graphics while retaining the original gameplay feel.

This release represents a fresh perspective on an epic adventure, whether for new players discovering the game for the first time or returning fans eager to revisit the world of Muramasa. With its stunning visuals and deep combat system, Muramasa: Revenant Blades promises to be a standout title in the upcoming year.
